QQI Level 4 Healthcare Support

This QQI Level 4 course is suitable for those who are considering a career in Healthcare but feel unready, unsure or unprepared to start a course at Level 5. This course will provide an introduction to learners in to what the role of the Carer really means. In addition, it will provide learners with practice in doing assignments and projects, which is very beneficial for adults who have not done previous courses since finishing school. 

The main items covered in this programme are: 

  •  Looking at the different type of care settings and the role of the carer
  •  How the principal carer's role interacts with the other professionals who work in the care setting
  •  The range of safety measures that should be taken when caring for a client including what to do in the case of a medical emergency
  •  The purpose of the various equipment used to assist in the care setting
  •  The importance of exercise and a healthy and balanced diet across the human life cycle to include the link between exercise and a healthy mind and body
  •  The role of protein, fats and carbohydrates, mineral, vitamins and water in the body
  •  The importance of special diets for specific health related conditions
  •  The different forms communication takes -  including verbal and non-verbal communication
  •  Common impairments that cause communication difficulties
  •  Principles of active listening
  •  Dealing effectively with situations of conflict in the healthcare setting
  •  The use of language that is appropriate and respectful of the cared for person and their family
